UPDATE 9/6/08: The Luna Blue is full. We have 16 out of 18 rooms rented. Below we listed a few beach front hotels. If you need help finding a hotel, email us. If you want to be close to our hotel, right next door is the Coco Rio. You'll still feel like you're staying with all of us!

UPDATE 7/24/08: Please make sure that the Luna Blue knows if you are sharing a room. Additional guests (after two people) are $10 each a night.

UPDATE 7/24/08: I think there is ONE room left at the Luna Blue. If you need help with other hotels let me know.

UPDATE 4/20/08: Luna Blue has only FOUR rooms left: two standards & two superiors.

Here are some pictures of the Luna Blue since most of us are staying there:

Here is a link to their blog site too. They are great writers, so check it out when you have time!

There are many different things to consider when you are staying Mexico. Our hope is to offer you some hotels or resort options that will work best for your needs during your stay. Basically since the home base for the wedding party is going to be in Playa Del Carmen, we are sticking to this area. Feel free to do some research of your own and stay where ever you like also ask us because we might know about a place. You should also know that the wedding is scheduled during the low season, which means you can get some deals and the prices are generally less then normal rates. We recommend that you check out Trip Advisor to read about hotels and reviews from other guests.

We are staying at the infamous Luna Blue from Wednesday, October 8 through Wednesday, October 22. It was at the Luna Blue over two years ago that Sarah and I met and we wouldn’t stay anywhere else while in Playa! Tony and Cheri, the owners, are Sarah's "Mexican parents" and we are all very close. The Luna Blue is a great hotel with an awesome garden, recently renovated, and in a great location just off of 5th Avenue. They just opened a bar too. Great timing for us! Every room has air conditioning, purified water, and each room except for the standard has a refrigerator. The rooms do not have TVs, but who needs a TV while in Playa?! They are recipients of several awards and are known far and wide as being the best bargain hotel in the Caribbean, so make your reservation as soon as possible! They have 18 rooms. You will find Tony and Cheri to be the soul of this hotel and the reason so many people keep coming back. They will help you with all your questions and point you in the right direction. Tell them you know us….better yet, tell them you know Sarah, that will get your further!

UPDATE 3/26/08: Luna Blue is filling up and filling up fast. So get your rooms early! It sounds as though most of us will be staying there.

UPDATE 4/20/08: Luna Blue has only FOUR rooms left: two standards & two superiors.

For those of you that are looking for the All-Inclusive (AI) resort, where almost everything is paid for (including food and drinks) we would recommend the Gran Porto Real. This is one of the few (if not only) AI resorts actually located in Playa Del Carmen. Most of the AI resorts are located south of Playa Del Carmen in a an area called Playacar. They are good and only about a 5 dollar taxi ride to the middle of 5th Avenue. The Gran Porto is on the beach and has all the comforts of being close to the action in Playa Del Carmen.

For those of you that would like to stay on the beach we would suggest Playa Maya. Although I have never stayed there, I have eaten there and they have great coconut shrimp! Sarah and her dad stayed there a few years ago and thought the price was a bit steep, but you pay more for being on the beach. It is located right in the middle of the action and is a close walk to all of the nightlife. Downside is that there isn't street access directly to the hotel, so you have to walk through the sand to get to and from the hotel.

Another great option for a beach hotel is Playa Palms. Sarah designed their brochure and we have had the chance to walk around and check out the rooms. A great looking place! It is right on the ocean and the rooms are very nice and recently renovated. Kinda spendy though and probably noisy given it's location next to several popular, late-night bars.

Our last option for accommodations would be to get together with some other couples or individuals and rent a condo or townhouse, either on the beach or not. There are several people who own houses, villas, and condos, that rent them out a majority of the year to off set their costs. These sort of places can be very cool and relatively cheap if you plan accordingly (they have kitchens!). We would recommend you contact Heather at Caribe Sunrise. You might notice this is another one of Sarah’s logos! Tell Heather what you are looking for and she will try her hardest to get you what you need. Tell her you know me and she might just ignore you! Haha!
